Analysts skeptical over new try at Mideast peace talks

Story Highlights Secretary of State John Kerry says the Israelis and the Palestinians are close to resuming peace talks

Secretary of State John Kerry told reporters Friday that Israel and the Palestinian Authority have established "the basis" for resuming peace talks.


"This is a significant and welcome step forward," Kerry said in Jordan after holding previously unscheduled talks with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas.


He added: "The agreement is still in the process of being formalized, so we are absolutely not going to talk about any of the elements now."
